🇬🇧 Is it necessary to harvest cartilage from the rib for people undergoing surgery for the first time?

In some of my patients, the deformities in the nose and septum (the middle wall of the nose) can be severe, requiring additional cartilage for repair. We obtain healthy cartilage by harvesting a rib graft.
Although rib grafts are very rarely needed for first-time surgery, we do encounter cases where they are necessary.
If your nasal deformity is severe and your doctor recommends harvesting cartilage from your rib, trust your surgeon. I don’t think any surgeon I know would take cartilage from your rib for nothing.

Another group of patients who may require rib grafts, even if they’re undergoing surgery for the first time, are those with ethnic noses. I’ll discuss this in another post.

Bazı hastalarımda burundaki ve septumdaki (burnun orta duvarı) bozukluklar ileri derecede olabiliyor ve onarım yapmak için ekstra kıkırdağa ihtiyaç duyuluyor. Kaburgadan aldığımız greft ile sağlam kıkırdak elde etmiş oluyoruz.
Her ne kadar ilk defa ameliyat olacak kişilerde kaburga greftine çok çok nadiren ihtiyaç duyulsa da, bu tarz ihtiyaç duyulan olgularla da karşılaşıyoruz.
Burnunuzdaki deformite aşırı ise ve doktorunuz kaburganızdan kıkırdak almamız gerekli diyorsa, doktorunuza güvenin. Hiç bir cerrah arkadaşımın, boşuna kaburgadan kıkırdak almayacağını düşünüyorum.

İlk defa ameliyat olacak olmasına rağmen kaburga grefti alınması gereken diğer bir hasta grubu ise etnik burun yapısına sahip olan hastalardır. Bunu da başka bir postta anlatırım👋
